MOORHEAD, Minn. — The American Association of Professional Baseball (AAPB) is formally establishing a Hall of Fame.
The 2022 inaugural class will be a part of the American Association All-Star Game festivities on July 11-12. The festivities will be at Impact Field in Rosemont, Ill., home of the Chicago Dogs.
The lone inductee for 2022 is Miles Wolff. He is the founder of the league, and he served as league commissioner from 2006 to 2018.
Wolff instrumental in independent and minor league baseball
Wolff is the “Godfather of Independent Baseball” due to resurrecting the Northern League in 1993. He would serve as league commissioner from its resurrection until 2002.
Prior to establishing the AAPB, he served as commissioner of three other leagues. Outside of the Northern League, he also commissioned the Central League (2002-05) and Northeast League (2003-04).
The only other commissioner role he simultaneously held was with the Can-Am League. He served in that capacity from 2005 until 2018.
American Association commissioner Schaub’s comment
“We are pleased to announce the formation of the American Association Hall of Fame. [We are also] excited to induct Miles Wolff as the lone member of the inaugural class,” said American Association Commissioner Joshua Schaub. “There is no more fitting person to lead our Hall of Fame inductions than the man who led this industry from the beginning.
“Miles is an icon in professional baseball,” Schaub adds. “He is singularly deserving [of] the honor as a charter member of the American Association Hall of Fame.”
AAPB Hall of Fame eligibility
The AAPB Hall of Fame will induct new members on an annual basis. Eligible inductees may be players, managers, coaches, owners, team executives, and contributors. League clubs will make formal nominations of individuals for consideration. A vote across the league will then be held each year to determine the next batch of inductees.
The American Association of Professional Baseball is the premier MLB Partner League with 12 member clubs located in nine states and one Canadian province. Formed in 2006, the league had 22 former players appear in a Major League Baseball game last season. The league features state-of-the-art facilities and locations in major American markets.
