Whether you’re headed to work for the day and want to make sure that you’re in the right mental space for it, or you have a day of looking after the kids and need just a moment to yourself, having a good morning routine can be important. Here, we’re going to look at a few tips to help you achieve the morning routine that works best for you.

morning routine

Make sure that you eat in the morning

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s not just an old saying, it’s true. If you don’t eat at the start of the day, then your metabolism isn’t going to have the fuel that it needs to kick into action.

Not only does this make you more likely to get hangry as the day goes on, but as your body isn’t processing energy at its usual rate, you’re going to feel a lot more sluggish and less alert as well. If you’re low on time, then look for quick and pre-prepared breakfasts you can get ready.

Start with something to listen

If you’re looking to get switched on and to be mentally engaged early in the morning, then that can be helped by making sure that you have the right thing to listen to as you get ready for your day or on your commute.

Listening to the morning news is what helps a lot of people do precisely that, but if you’re not a fan of tuning into the doom and gloom quite so early in your day, then you might want to look for a morning podcast that offers the shot of energy that the day needs, instead.

Get your brain engaged with morning puzzles

Of course, if you’re looking to really wake up, then you want to be an active mental participant, not just someone who is listening to something passively.

A lot of people do their morning puzzles for precisely that reason, it helps you get your brain into gear. Whether it’s the morning crossword or you’re more of a sudoku person, finding your method of getting your brain into gear early can be invaluable. It can help you hit the ground running when you get to the day’s work.

Get up and get moving

It’s easy to stay in bed for an extra twenty minutes, and just as easy to spend that twenty minutes in a chair if you do manage to pull yourself away from sleep. However, as soon as you can after you get fed, you should look to get in a little workout, whether it’s some quick bodyweight exercises in the bedroom, a few minutes on the treadmill, or a walk around the block. Get the blood pumping and the endorphins going and it can wake you up into a good mood in no time.

Of course, you can customize your routine to meet your specific needs. However, if you feel like you’re rushing into your mornings and that they lead to generally dissatisfying days, then creating a routine, any routine, might be what you need.
