RAMSEY (Heartland Newsfeed) — After 33 years with the United States Postal Service, Linda Heldebrandt retired Friday.
“I started in 1984 as a substitute rural carrier in Nokomis,” she said. “Then in 1994 I got my first career position as a city carrier. “
In February of 2005, Heldebrandt was named postmaster of the Ramsey Post Office.
“The post office has changed so much since I started,” she said. “The number of packages has increased drastically, I think because people are shopping online so much more. The technology to track packages and letters has increased, too. We can track these things at every step of the way now.”
Heldebrandt’s advice to anyone interested in a career at the post office is to check the career website. “New jobs are posted all the time,” she said. “People have to start at the bottom, but there are good opportunities at the post office.”
Heldebrandt’s last day was Friday. “I’m excited to have Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve at my house without the rush that goes along with working,” she said. “I plan to spend more time with my eight grandchildren.
“I’ve been fortunate to work for the post office,” she said. “It has been a great job for me, and I will really miss my customers, who have become my friends.”
Heldebrandt and her husband, John, live in Nokomis.
