ST. LOUIS — St. Louis CITY SC and defender Kyle Hiebert (HEE-bert) have agreed to terms on a new contract, per a news release Monday.
Hiebert will remain at CITY SC for another two seasons through 2026. There is a club option to extend his contract through 2027. He has been a part of the St. Louis squad since joining CITY2 in 2022.
The 26-year-old Missouri State alum from Manitoba had a strong first season in Major League Soccer and professionally.
Hiebert appeared in 31 matches and was on the pitch for 2,427 minutes across all competitions on the CITY SC defensive side of the squad. In MLS action, he started in 24 matches in three positions: center-back, left-back, and right-back. During the regular season, he was also able to tally two goals during CITY SC’s historical inaugural run in the regular season.
CITY SC was 15-7-2 during all regular season competition when Hiebert was in the starting eleven.
Hiebert also made his inaugural cap for the Canadian men’s national team in March for the CONCACAF Nations League. Before his call-up, he made three appearances on the under-18 Canadian national team.
The defender had a strong collegiate career as a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy award finalist. He would join CITY2 after going undrafted in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. In the 2022 NEXT Pro season, Hiebert played all but four minutes in 27 matches, recording three goals for the season.
“Kyle has grown exponentially since joining this club, which is why this decision was a no-brainer,” said Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. “He continues to excel on and off the field, and his positional versatility has been a massive growth in his game.”
Requests for comment from manager Bradley Carnell were not returned before publication.
The 2024 MLS season will begin on February 26. CITY SC is set to participate in the CONCACAF Champions Cup ten days later.
Hiebert could have three new players joining him on the CITY SC squad come December 19, when team representatives can make their selections in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft presented by Adidas. It has not yet been determined what pick order St. Louis has been given for the first round. The draft picks are done in reverse order of the club standings at the end of each MLS season, taking postseason performance into account.
